The goal was to keep a friendly and sweet children's product while also making the product more eco-friendly. The wrappers are plastic in the original Bear Paws so making them with paper it would create a more eco-friendly product. The colour scheme is primarily woodsy, and I used the typeface Caraque because it has a soft feeling which goes well with cookies.

The packaging is still in English and French to stay within Canadian guidelines, and the bear was simplified to take away some of the eeriness of his eyes. The coloured swash across the packaging would change depending on the flavour.

The Process

When beginning this project, my inspiration was immediately to think about my childhood watching Yogi Bear. His love for picnic baskets sparked the idea of creating a picnic basket for Bear Paws. Alternatively, through my research, I found boxes with large animals making up the container, so it was an additional idea. To go with the basket theme, the wrappers for the individual cookies are in a picnic basket plaid which matches the inside of the basket.

We were tasked to make our packaging ourselves, so learning to make an openable picnic basket with a moving handle was a challenge. My professor helped me along the way understanding how to attach the lid to the body of the basket.
